Examinations: Registration deadlines and dates

Registration of mathematics courses

Introductory student seminars and advanced student seminars

• Allocation of student seminar places and talks during the preliminary meeting at the end of the lecture time of the previous semester (dates of the preliminary meetings: see the Course Catalogue, available approx. end January).
• No registration of participation via HISinOne, but exam registration (see below).

Lecture courses

• Registration of participation via HISinOne from 1 March until 15 May approx.

Exercise tutorials

• Registration of participation via HISinOne from 22–24 April 2026 (always Wed-Fr after start of lectures). Registration is sometimes omitted if there is only one exercises tutorial.

Registration of examinations and assessments in mathematics courses

Introductory student seminars and advanced student seminars

• Condition: You have been allocated a student seminar place and a talk during the preliminary meeting.
• Exam registration via HISinOne
• Deadline: from 1 March 2026 until Wed, 15 April 2026 (always Wednesday before start of lectures)

Oral examinations in Master's degree programmes

• Written registration with the corresponding form
• Deadline: no later than three weeks before the exam (after making an individual appointment with the examiner).
• Exceptions (registration via HISinOne, see "other mathematics examinations")
  • M.Ed. "mathematics as additional subject": oral exam in Analysis/Linear Algebra
  • M.Ed. (Gymnasium) with integrated practice: oral exam in Algebra and Number Theory

Other mathematics examinations

Especially sit-down exams, oral exams in Analysis and Linear Algebra, other oral exams in the Bachelor's degree programmes

• Exam registration via HISinOne.
• Deadline: from 20 April 2026 (start of lectures) until Mo, 13 July 2026 (Monday of the penultimate week of lectures)
• Submission of examiner wishes for the oral examinations in Analysis or Linear Algebra: in the week in which the exam registration ends. You will get an e-mail with the relevant information in case you have registered for the exam.

Pass/fail assessments in mathematics courses

Especially programming exercises, pass/fail sit-down examinations

• Registration via HISinOne.
• Deadline: from 1 March 2026 until Mo, 13 July 2026 (Monday of the penultimate week of lectures)

Modules from other subjects or departments

Subsidiary subject in the B.Sc. / Electives in Data from other departments in the M.Sc. Maths in Data

• The deadlines of the department offering the courses do apply!
• Modules in special subsidiary subjects: written exam registration with the corresponding form at the examination office of the Mathematical Institute
• Modules in standard subsidiary subjects: exam registration via HISinOne (exception Physiklabor: exam registration via course registration)
• The examination office of the Mathematical Institute is responsible for the student affais concerning the subsidiary subject. Please do not contact the examination office of the other department if you have questions or if there are any problems!

Electives from other subjects in B.Sc./M.Sc.

• The deadlines of the department offering the courses do apply!
• Modules from Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Physics, Biology: Registration of the pass/fail assessments via HISinOne. If the possibility of registration is not yet available, please contact Markus Junker by end of May.
• Modules from other subjects: Usually, no separate registration is required. Please submit a confirmation about the passed assessment to the examination office of the Mathematical Institute after having completed the course.
• The examination office of the Mathematical Institute is responsible for the student affairs concerning the electives. Please do not contact the examination office of the other department if you have questions or if there are any problems!

BOK courses, second subject for teaching degrees, educational science, school practice:

Dates of sit-down examinations

• The exam dates are usually announced in the first weeks of the course. The exams usually take place during the lecture-free period until the end of the semester, in individual cases also in the last week of lectures.
• There is a three-week examination-free period in August (roughly the last three weeks of August).

Oral exams

Analysis and Linear Algebra

The oral examinations in Analysis and in Linear Algebra (Bachelor's degree programmes and M.Ed. as additional subject) are usually held at the beginning of April and the beginning of October – approximately three weeks before to one week after the start of lectures. Each examiner has their own examination period of approximately one week. The examination schedule is published approximately one month before the first examinations (entry in HISinOne). The examinations usually take place in the examiner's office.

Other oral examinations in the Master's degree programmes

Please arrange the examination dates individually with the examiners. The written registration for the examination must be submitted to the Examinations Office at least three weeks before the examination.

Student seminars

The examination date in student seminars is the day of the examination talk and is usually determined at the preliminary meeting.
